From the bride: “I’ve always been a fan of early 20th-century design, specifically Art Deco and Bauhaus, so I wanted to incorporate both into our wedding design: not quite as glitzy and flamboyant as Art Deco, but also not as bare-bones and simplistic as Bauhaus, with a focus on elements shared by both of these styles. Sleek geometric forms. Use of modern materials like glass and metals. For example, during the ceremony, our guests were seated on minimalist white chairs with a boldly curved back design. All ninety of these chairs had to be specially flown to Chiang Mai from Phuket. At the reception, we paired transparent ghost chairs with round tables topped by metallic mirrored surfaces that reflected the sparkling lights above, creating a stunning “sea of stars” impact. The menus have been a half-circular form, with Bauhaus-inspired typography. And after all, hovering over all the things and everybody was the pièce de résistance: an impressive dome of sunshine that was custom-built on the coronary heart of the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai only for our wedding ceremony. Before this event, a construction of this measurement and scale had by no means been constructed on the grounds of this lodge for any occasion! A strikingly minimalist twist on the traditional chandelier, additionally custom-made for us, dangled from the middle of this huge dome. Instead of the same old crystals and curlicues and elaborate swirls, this 7-foot chandelier was completely characterised by straight black traces – an homage to our distinctive Art Deco meets Bauhaus idea.”

My absolute high precedence in planning this wedding ceremony has at all times been visitor enjoyment. At one level through the design course of, when Nitcha (designer from Wedding Bliss workforce) confirmed me that the indicators on the wedding ceremony could be made from a mirrored materials, I even requested her to make use of these “skinnifying” mirrors that make folks look longer and leaner, in order that my friends would really feel good after they caught sight of their very own reflections! That’s how severe I used to be about ensuring my friends have been glad. Lyle and I’ve attended many beautiful vacation spot weddings collectively all all over the world, from Mexico to Sicily, so by the point I started planning my very own wedding ceremony, I used to be a really skilled wedding ceremony visitor. Drawing upon my very own experiences, I concluded that wedding ceremony friends primarily care about two issues: visible spectacle and social connection. These have been the 2 most essential issues that I needed our family and friends to expertise at our wedding ceremony. In phrases of visible spectacle, I knew I may depend on the geniuses on the Wedding Bliss Thailand for the proper venue, and my wedding ceremony gown designer (Dita, founder and artistic director of Honeysuckle Atelier) for an unforgettable gown.

As for social connection, this was such a uncommon alternative for us to convey collectively our wonderful buddies from Taipei, San Francisco, and London, so we didn’t wish to waste it! I used to be extraordinarily cautious and intentional in crafting the seating preparations for each the welcome dinner and the reception dinner. On each nights, I made certain that each visitor could be seated close to a combination of individuals: some that they already knew (in order that they’d really feel snug), and a few that they didn’t know but however I felt like they’d get together with (in order that they’d make new buddies and new connections). Having to fulfill each situations for every visitor’s seat made the seating charts really feel like a large Sudoku puzzle!

We additionally arrange a dance competitors between two teams of buddies through the reception – a giant “Team Taipei vs. Team SF” dance-off. The aggressive side created a enjoyable speaking level and dialog starter for the entire wedding ceremony weekend. Before the showdown (the truth is, even earlier than the marriage weekend began), members of the 2 rival groups have been already campaigning for votes, and different friends have been taking bets on which workforce would emerge victorious; after the competitors, the controversial resolution to award Team Taipei the victory triggered many energetic debates (and extra dance battles) on the after-party.
