For probably the most half, we love our vehicles, however they’re hardly ever ever excellent. We requested our readers final week what the nagging points with their vehicles had been. The issues aren’t sufficient to make a automobile undrivable, however are annoying sufficient to be not possible to disregard. For one proprietor, Apple CarPlay loaded right into a BMW X5 would disable the Sirius satellite tv for pc radio. Meanwhile, the proprietor of a 1988 Honda Prelude is simply dwelling with damaged pop-up headlights.
The pair of issues does not even scratch the floor of what individuals are simply dwelling with. One driver is coping with a leaky wheel. No, not a tire. It’s a leaky wheel. The engine in a single Toyota Tundra will not even begin with the doorways closed.
You do not must dwell like this. I hope on my life that they think about taking their pickup to a mechanic. Without additional ado, these are the worst nagging points that simply will not go away.
This Toyota Prius’ gauges will sometimes not activate
“My nagging issue about my car (2007 Toyota Prius) is that occasionally, the digital gauges and dashboard warning lights fail to turn on, posing risks of speeding (due to you being unable to see the speedometer) and running out of fuel (due to you being unable to see the fuel level). I actually have to do somewhat of a procedure to get the warning lights and gauges on whenever I get in the car and the door open light isn’t illuminating when the door is open, which involves pushing the power button (without the brake) to accessory mode, then pushing the brake pedal and holding it, then turning the headlights on after the Bluetooth connection status appears on top of the touchscreen, then after a second or two pushing the power button with the brakes still applied to turn on the hybrid system and hope that the gauges turn on.”

The BMW X5’s bizarre connectivity points
“We have a 2019 X5 that I love. Best all-around car that I’ve ever owned. One weird thing – if my wife drives it, Apple CarPlay connects to her phone and then later when I drive the car, it connects to my phone but something breaks with the connection to Sirius. Like it just flat-out does not play. I have to hold the volume/on-off button to shut down iDrive and let it come back up. Very bizarre. I have to bring my car in for service in a few weeks, so I’ll let them know and if there’s something that can be done or that we can do differently.”

Anything to make this Audi A4’s clunking door cease
“2010 A4 quattro. On the surface interior looks nice. But now that it’s 15 years old and 160k on it. The interior is falling apart sagging headliner, the “brushed metal door deal with is simply skinny sheet steel that’s sharp af, “leather” shift boot has ripped. Leather seats are cracking. I can dwell with all of that, however dang, the driving force’s facet window/door makes a low clunking noise. It’s pushed me loopy since 2010.”

BMW’s irritating oil leak
“Pretty a lot each BMW (mine is an E60 with the N54 engine) could have oil leaks on the gasket the place the oil filter housing meets the block. I’ve by no means had a automobile earlier than with that downside and it’s so annoying and costly to repair. If you do not, you run the danger of throwing the accent belt into the crank pully/harmonic balancer and inflicting main injury to the engine
Honorable point out to the reoccurring sunroof leak I at present have on the identical automobile.”

This Toyota Tundra will not begin with the door closed
“My ’03 Tundra won’t start if the driver’s door is closed.. Backstory: I went to replace headlight bulbs a couple of years ago. When I pulled the bulbs, I noticed that the sockets and wiring was fried. So, I bought new harnesses with the intention of clipping out the old, splicing in the new, and sealing the connections with heat-shrink. As soon as I started pulling wire back, things got weird. I found a bunch of wiring that was associated with a dead, aftermarket alarm system (not installed by me). So, I clipped the wires on either side of the alarm controller, clipped off the wires to the annunciator, and made my connections as if the alarm had never been installed. I made my connections, reconnected the battery, fired up the truck, turned on the lights and voila, everything worked. I crimped my connections, sealed everything in heat shrink, and disposed of the junk. So far in this little project, I hadn’t closed the driver’s door. Later that day, I got in the truck, closed the door and turned the key. Not even a click. My first thought was that something wasn’t grounded properly and I’d drained the battery. I stuffed a multimeter probe into the sockets. Everything seemed fine. I reached into the truck (with the door open) and turned the key to the accessory position, turned the headlights on and they came on. So, the battery was fine and the wiring was fine. I reached back in and turned the key to the start position and the truck started. So, that’s how I have to start my truck.”

A Mercedes auto-close trunk colliding with air
“2019 C63 AMG, purchased new in 2020. The auto-close trunk lid generally fails to shut, as if it has hit an obstruction. It simply stops. Happens extra typically on sizzling days (widespread right here in California) and has triggered me to go away it open in a parking zone on a number of events. I had Mercedes have a look at it a number of occasions whereas in for service they usually tried the whole lot as much as and together with changing the latch mechanisms. Still occurs.
I’ve discovered to pay attention for the clunk sound of a correctly closed lid, but it surely all the time appears so pointless on such an costly automobile. Luckily, that is the worst factor in regards to the automobile, the whole lot else has been a pleasure over the previous almost 6 years.”

Volkswagen’s energy seats will not keep down
“VW power seats will not stay in the all-the-way-down position. They always creep upward over time when the car is off, sometimes nearly an inch. Whenever I get in, I always have to move it back down to the bottom. Happens in my ’19 GLI, and also did in my ’03 Passat.”

The answer to the WRX’s squeaking clutch
“Squeaking/stiff clutch pedal – 08-14 WRX.
There are two fundamental points:
1. – The firewall spot welds that maintain the pedal meeting on. The prolonged guarantee on this, nonetheless it’s an uphill battle for the seller to truly carry out the work and acknowledge the failing welds. Not to say this triggered a considerable amount of clutches to wear down prematurely (I’m speaking 10k miles in some situations). The finest shade tree mechanic answer is to purchase the Humble Rumble firewall repair for <$200, and you’ll keep away from ripping out the sprint to get a welder in there.xtagstartz/blockquote>
Tearing fake leather-based on the Subaru Outback
“This is, as nagging points goes, fairly minor. It does not have an effect on the way in which my automobile drives, it is mainly unnoticeable as soon as I sit down.
Subaru used a very inferior grade of fake leather-based on the Gen-5 Outback’s seats. The precise leather-based? bulletproof. The fake leather-based on the left facet of the driving force’s seat? Find me a Gen-5 Outback with leather-based seats that does not have tears within the bolsters on the driving force’s seat. It’s ANNOYING. It nags at me as a result of actually, I equate ripped seats with not taking good care of my automobile. And if the web is to be believed, this can be a factor on just about ALL the Gen-5 Outbacks with leather-based seats. It’s a standard sufficient downside that, had been it one thing aside from a seat-tear, it’d have been recalled by now.
Worst is, to repair it means paying round 1k to a seller or disconnecting the battery, eradicating the seat after which a number of hours of cautious surgical procedure to unhook the previous seat cowl and reattach a brand new one, all of the whereas hoping it does not set off the seat-based airbags whenever you reinstall it.”

A rattling contained in the Ford Maverick’s dashboard
“There’s a rattle that seems to come from within the dash on my 2022 Maverick. Super well-known issue. Ford’s TSB didn’t fix it. Internet/Forum fixes don’t seem to help. One of these days, I’m going to have to tear into it and see if I can quash it — assuming I don’t snap first.”

A very puzzling wheel leak
“I’ve a slow-leaking wheel. Yes, WHEEL. The tire store verified the leak was within the wheel, not the tire.
I took it to a wheel store as soon as to get it repaired. That restore did maintain for like a yr, till the wheel began leaking once more. So I simply prime it off about as soon as every week, earlier than the TPMS mild comes on, and I’m good.”

A late Eighties Prelude with defective headlights
“Ok, this is not my present automobile, or the automobile earlier than that, or the Jeep earlier than that, however again in school I had a completely BEAUTIFUL 1988 Prelude Si. Bright crimson, 5sp, upgraded stereo (due to course). I cherished that factor to loss of life, however….. It had been in an accident sooner or later, proper round the place the fuse field was (entrance proper quarter panel), and had been repaired. Mostly.
99% of the time it was high quality. Drove effectively (though I needed to change numerous suspension elements whereas I owned it), ran straight, no points. But when it rained, effectively, the automobile’s pop-up headlights would quick out and lift and decrease, alternating left after which proper. Left, and proper, forwards and backwards. The solely answer at that time could be to drag over, leap out (within the pouring rain), pull the fuse (obtained actually good at understanding which one it was), and hand-crank the headlights till they had been absolutely up. Then I’d get again in my automobile, soaking moist, and mutter to myself how I’d simply hold the headlights up from then on out.
But it appeared SO MUCH BETTER with them down. So I’d plug the fuses again in, decrease the headlights, after which simply dread the following time it rained.”

It’s too sizzling to shut the window
“Driver’s side window won’t roll up if rolled down on a hot day unless you wait a minute or two for the motor to cool down. Normally not a problem, but I had it stick down when I tried to tip someone at the car wash and it shut down the machine for a couple minutes while I was flapping the door like mad trying to cool off the motor.”
